Gentoo penguins on Booth Island, Antarctica

Beak to beak

Only around 700 miles from South America, Booth Island is closer to civilization than much of Antarctica. As such, this isle off the northward-jutting Antarctic Peninsula isn’t too far a jaunt for tourists (as long as they’re OK with freezing their butts off on a boat). Bundled-up visitors can see some super-cool scenery here – and, if they’re lucky like the photographer who made this shot, catch some local gentoo penguins in a too-cute moment.
